By the way, what are the best settings for this book?
1..35, or 1..100?
And learning allowed or not?

Houdini 1.5a w32 B = Hiarcs 13d.ctg = 15.5 / 22
Houdini 1.5a w32 C = Junior 12.ctg = 10.0 / 22
Houdini 1.5a w32 A = Halo 4.2.ctg = 7.5 / 22

your useing 3 engines that all use large pages by default , unless you have more than 8 gb ram not all 3 will be able to use them , if at least one houdini cant use large pages it has handicap , better to use copies of other engines

ok, I have 3Go RAM
1) can't I disable large pages in houdini's settings?
2) which engine would you recommend for testing, then?
3) should I give less hash (currently 1024MB)?
4) by the way, while Halo's settings are 0..100 for moves, I assume it's 3..35 for Hiarcs and Junio, isn't it?
also, should I leave learning possible or not?

By the way, Houdini doesn't seem to use large pages automatically. Here is what is written on Houdini's webpage:

"Large Memory Pages
Houdini will use so-called large memory pages if they are provided by the operating system. Depending on the hash table size the speed improvement may be between 5% and 10%.
To enable this feature in Windows, you need to modify the Group Policy for your account:
1. Run: gpedit.msc (or search for "Group Policy")
2. Under "Computer Configuration", "Windows Settings", "Security Settings", "Local Policies" click on "User Rights Assignment"
3. In the right pane double-click the option "Lock Pages in Memory"
4. Click on "Add User or Group" and add your account or "Everyone"
5. You may have to logoff or reboot for the change to take effect
You'll also need to run your chess GUI with administrative rights ("Run as Administrator") or disable UAC in Windows.
Very often large pages will only be available shortly after booting Windows. After a while the Windows memory becomes too fragmented for large page allocation, and Houdini will fall back to standard memory page usage."

Since I've done none of that, Houdini pretty surely doesn't use large pages on my computer.

It would depend on your operating system , only vista seems to need ntights exe, to check see the houdini read me text file , this appears where engine is located on your pc once houdini starts a game

if you have less than 4gb ram and are useing 2 nithen your hash is to high

if you care to look in test and tournaments you will see "B" uses ivans more than any other engines and she recommends ivans for book testing
