PostSubject: Release date pushed back a month for AMD Bulldozer desktop processors   Fri Sep 09, 2011 7:43 pm

By Sean Portnoy | September 8, 2011, 5:15pm PDT

Summary: At
the same time it is shipping out its first Bulldozer server chips (the
16-core Interlagos), AMD appears to be delaying its roll-out of
Bulldozers for the desktop. Previously thought to be due in the next
couple of weeks, the Bulldozer desktop chips, code-named Zambezi, have

Bulldozers for the desktop. Previously thought to be due in the next
couple of weeks, the Bulldozer desktop chips, code-named Zambezi, have
been pushed back at least another month, according to Fudzilla.

Though no official word has been given by AMD about release dates at
all, there is speculation that delays may be related in part to tweaking
to improve performance for the all-important launch reviews testing.
There’s also chatter about the company being able to initially produce enough chips to match demand.

While the wait will drag on for those ready to pounce on the new
CPUs, the good news is that AMD is expanding the number of Zambezi
offerings with which it will launch. There will now be four different
eight-core FX processors, a six-core one, and a pair of quad-cores from
which to choose, whenever Bulldozer ever does come to the desktop.

FX-series pushed for October

Although it was never officially confirmed by AMD that
desktop Bulldozer parts will launch in September there has been some
solid info regarding that date, but now our sources are confirming that
there will be no FX parts till mid-October, at earliest.

The good part of the story comes from Xbitlabs.com
and according to the news post, there has been some changes regarding
the FX Zambezi lineup. According to the info, AMD has expanded the
lineup to a total of seven models, four FX-8100 series eight-cores, one
FX-6100 six-core and two FX-4100 series quad cores. Of course, the Q1
2012 lineup includes one one of each, FX-8170, FX-6120 and FX-4120.

As far as the delay goes, we have been hearing about it for a last
couple of days but now our sources are pretty sure that Bulldozer will
not come before mid-October. That is the best case scenario, if all goes
well for AMD.

According to what we've heard, there have been
five versions of the B2 chip stepping and performance wise Bulldozer
doesn't look that good at least not from what are sources are telling
us. In any case, there will certainly be more details regarding the
FX-Series lineup as we step into the next month
