Houdini 1.03a x64 4_CPU - Deep Rybka 4 (4 CPU)
259 - 241 . 51.80% - 48.20%
( +125 - 107 = 268 )
Both engines have played only with 4 cores because Houdini's speed to 8 cores is very slow.
To compare two engines it is not always necessary to play 500 or 1000 games, sometimes even 50 or 100 are enough :
If the tester is a tournament player or at least a very strong amateur he can analyse the games of engine X against a lot of different opponents. When a 50 game match are not implied to define the aproximate difference in strength than it would be necessary to play another 50 games.
For example I had a match IvanHoe T55B - Deep Rybka 4 and after 24 games IvanHoe was ahead 7-1 (+ draws). At the end of 50 games Deep Rybka won with 11-9 (+ draws) !! Up and down. I have played another match and the end result was + 8 -8 =34. Clear, both engines have very probable the same level. I think after 500 games it will be also very close!
Looks at the result of my 500 match Houdini - Deep Rybka and divide all by 10: 500games : 10 = 50 games.
125:10 = 12,5 . 107:10 = 10,7 . 268:10 = 26,8 .
+12,5 - 10,7 = 26,8 is round :+13 - 11 = 26.
I had a similar result between Houdini and Deep Rybka 4 a few days and
published also the games to download.
The deep is very informative in every serious test, the profounder the better play most engines.
On a dual core: X is stronger than Y,on a quad: Y is stronger than X and on a Octa no X no Y but rather "z" and the people say to poor Sandi "go to hell with your Octas"
